Volleyball legend Nikolay Karpol received on Wednesday the state award ‘Hero of Labour of the Russian Federation’ from President Vladimir Putin at a special ceremony held in the Kremlin. Karpol, who is the most successful coach in Volleyball history, will turn 80 on May 1.
“We have many amazing, extraordinary people. Even people who are not following sports very closely know the name of Nikolay Vasilyevich Karpol.
He is the most successful Volleyball coach in the world and the most decorated Russian coach across all team sports. Nikolay Vasilyevich provided bright, unforgettable emotions to more than one generation of fans - he personifies the victory itself, inspires confidence in it and the fans of Volleyball and, most importantly, the youngsters. Nikolai Vasilyevich brought up many champions. With his energy, character, his words, he can create a real team, motivate people towards the achievement of a common goal, and this is the key to success,” RIA Novosti quoted Vladimir Putin as saying at the award ceremony.
Vladimir Putin established the award for the ‘Hero of Labour of the Russian Federation’ with a Presidential Decree in March 2013. The title is awarded to citizens of the Russian Federation for special services in labour to the state associated with the achievement of outstanding results in public, social and economic activities, thereby including sports, aimed at ensuring the welfare and prosperity of the Russian Federation.
The CEV and all members of the European Volleyball family warmly congratulate Mr Karpol for this well-deserved and prestigious award, while wishing him good health and further achievements for the good of Volleyball.
