RETURN TO THE “OLD NEST” IN SAVINJA VALLEY
I was somewhat surprised by a phone call and an invitation to return to the “old nest”, to lead ŽOK BRASLOVČE, because, as I was told, the results weren’t the best. Something has to be done. Momentarily, I was aware of the given situation and suddenly I wanted to revisit the old and the young in Braslovče, a nice town in Štajerska – Savinja valley. The girls of ŽOK Braslovče – driven, hard working, with just the right amount of youth attitude, left a mark on me these past two seasons so my choice was fairly simple. It’s true there has been a couple offers precisely in these last few days, but Braslovče were ahead of them all.
They played 66 games, disappointment among team USA and Russia. Waiting for new opportunity to qualify for 2016 Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro.

The main goal of this prestigious competition was to qualify for the 2016 Olympic games in Brazil. Although at the beginning all odds seemed to be in favor us the USA, led by the renowned KarchKiraly, and team Russia, China (1st) and Serbia (2nd) were the ones celebrating at the end. Both, China with coach Lang Ping and Serbia, lead by ZoranTerzic, now get quite some time to rest as they’ve reached their primary goal. The rest of the teams will have another chance at the continental qualifications to participate in the very important Olympic games 2016. So far, only three teams are confirmed to be participating in Rio de Janeiro: the home team of Brazil that gained the right by being the host of the Olympics and now China and Serbia.
The best from World Cup 2015:
12 best teams from all continents participate, several possible favorites. World Cup 2011 winner was Russia.
Hiroshima, Toyami, Osaka and few other Japanese cities will host the 2015 men’s volleyball world cup from September 8-23. There are quite some favorites, among which we could name Russia, USA, Poland, Iran, Italy, Argentina and some others that will, as said, try to win the ticket to Rio.The only team, which has guaranteed a spot at the Rio games, is the host team Brazil, and Hiroshima will be the first opportunity for the rest. Besides that, there will be some other chances at the continental competitions. The first teams to step on the court will be Italy and Canada and Argentina and Iran will play second. Based on the experts’ predictions, big surprises are possible at the opening games of the first day. 12 teams in World Cup 2015: Argentina, Australia, Canada, Egypt, Iran, Italy, Japan, Poland, Russia, Tunisia, USA and Venezuela.

Coaches showed a lot of interested to execute a licensing seminar under organization of DOTS (Slovenia’s volleyball coaches’ association) held on Saturday, September 5 in Logatec. Presenter was none other than a former excellent volleyball player, one of the world’s all time bests, Vladimir Grbic. During the theoretical and practical parts of his presentations, Grbic gave a lot of emphasis on technical aspects, training approaches and the right mental stance that takes a young athlete from his beginnings to top lever results. Grbic started his career in his home time Klek in Vojvodina (Serbia) along with his brother Nikola and their father and first coach Milos Grbic, former team Yugoslavia captain.
Desire, strong will and motivation to reach top level results.
“Everything is possible” could be said about the convincing yet somewhat surprising result of the IAAF World Championships in China, when three Ethiopian runners stood on the 5000m victory podium.
1. A. AYANA ETI 14:26:83
2. S. TEFERI ETI 14:44:07
3. G. DIBABA ETI 14:44:14
Ethiopia is a poor country with just over 91.000 citizens (2012) in eastern Africa with a large population who mostly live in poverty, as almost 85 percent of them lives of self-supporting farming. Climate in the desert areas as well as in savannah and higher mountains isn’t appropriate to cultivate as temperature can reach over 50 degrees Celsius. However sports, athletics in particular is rooted there which is proven by excellent results of Ethiopian athletes. And the big “triple” success in women’s 5000m is proof that everything is possible if there is enough motivation.
