FIVB Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup 2017
Held in Tokyo, the draw for the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup matched up Olympic champions China and world champions USA on the first day of the women’s competition.
The 2017 World Grand Champions Cup is the seventh edition of the FIVB’s quadrennial event for men’s and women’s national teams and the final highlight of the FIVB’s 2017 volleyball calendar.

Lausanne, Switzerland, March 6, 2017 – The spotlight will be on Curitiba this July when the Brazilian city will hold the 2017 World League Finals at the 43,000-seat stadium – the Arena da Baixada – which hosted matches of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. This is the second time that a major FIVB tournament will be played in a football stadium following the immense success of the opening match of the 2014 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship in Poland, which was played at the National Stadium in Warsaw.

The opening match was totally one-sided, seeing efending and successive five-time champions Japan smash New Zealand a 3-0 (25-7, 25-5, 25-9) in 49 minutes.
In the first set, New Zealand were unable to score a point until Japan had thrown them far away behind 11-0. They could only sneak some points from Japan’s errors. Japan quickly finished the first set 25-7 after a spike by Ayaka Araki.
The second set was even easier for Japan. The six-time champions gave their opponents only five points to seal the set 25-5.

WORLD GRAND PRIX PREPARING FOR NEW ERA WITH BIGGEST FIELD OF TEAMS
The 32 teams will be split into three groups – 12 teams in Groups 1 and 2, and eight teams in Group 3. The preliminary round will take place over three weeks between July 7 and 23. It will be followed by the Group 3 Finals in Canberra, Australia from July 22 to 23, Group 2 Finals in Ostrava, Czech Republic from Jul...y 28 to 30 and the Group 1 Finals in Nanjing, China from August 2 to 6.
China, one of the two nations that have participated in all editions of the tournament, are seeking to continue their reign in women’s volleyball after a stellar gold medal winning performance at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Bangkok, Thailand, February 24, 2017 – Drawing of lots for six top-notch AVC indoor tournaments will be conducted by the Asian Volleyball Confederation at Dusit Princess Srinakarin Hotel on February 27.

Volleyball fever has already gripped Asia and Thailand in particular when a total of eight major AVC competitions will take place this year including the 11th Asian Girls’ U18 Championships in Chongqing, China between March 5 and 13 and the 11th Asian Boys’ U19 Championship in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar from March 28 to ...April 5. Drawing of lots of both tournaments have already been made recently.
In terms of the remaining six top-flight competitions, the press conference and drawing of lots will be held in Bangkok coming Monday at 2pm local time.
